The slim, tapered shape of AFTCO's aluminum claws makes them lightning fast in the water - easy to use and deadly accurate. They are also stronger and lighter, so you can pull the fish back to the boat without throwing or twisting. The claw is light, bends very slightly under weight, is pointed in an interesting way that allows for easy resharpening, does not sink, and the hook has no counter. The hook is not straight, but starts with a slight reverse curve after the handle - this allows for a larger hook opening, and when sinking, the rod usually stands at an angle of about 45 degrees to the water. Its end is also grooved and hardened, then inserted into the conical rod in a way that does not allow it to slip out. The body of the pole is made of corrosion-resistant aluminum, and the walls are thicker at the smaller diameter end and thinner at the larger diameter end. This provides greater durability without adding unnecessary weight. The handles are soft but strong and have the same non-slip coating as the most advanced poles. Black vinyl plugs seal out moisture and protect the boat from scratches.
